Tesla's latest software update brings substantial enhancements to Autopark and Summon features, including the much-anticipated renaming of Autopark to 'Banish.' This update marks a significant leap towards improving Tesla vehicles' autonomous capabilities, catering to owner feedback and technological advancements.
Tesla Unveils Advanced Autopark in Latest Update, Paving the Way for 'Banish' and Enhanced Summon
Tesla has been working on releasing a more robust Autopark version for some time, and CEO Elon Musk announced earlier this month that the feature would be available soon.
It appears to be here after much anticipation and waiting from Tesla's loyal fans and owners.
According to Not a Tesla App (via Teslarati), Tesla has officially included the new version of Autopark in the 2024.2.11 Software Update:
"Your vehicle can now automatically park — and parallel park — in designated spaces.
Your display highlights potential parking spaces when you're driving at low speed. Autopark shows a circular P symbol to suggest a space, but you can choose any highlighted space.
To start parking, stop the vehicle, press Start, and release the steering wheel so it can move freely. For more details, refer to the Owner's Manual.
As with all Autopilot features, you must continue to pay attention and be ready to take immediate action, including canceling Autopark."
When Tesla removed sensors from its vehicles and focused on its self-proclaimed Tesla Vision a few years ago, cars lost some capabilities.
Autopark and Smart Summon were unavailable on cars without Ultra Sonic Sensors (USS), as the vehicles could not detect objects and distances from them.
Tesla then included High-Fidelity Park Assist in the Holiday Update, released around Christmas. It is available for vehicles with USS and Tesla Vision. According to Musk, Autopark was supposed to be renamed "Banish."
In addition, Tesla expects to release "really cool stuff," and Summon could be improved next.
Elon Musk Announces Upgrades to Tesla's Summon and Autopark, Introducing ‘Banish’
Tesla Summon and Autopark will see significant improvements next month, according to CEO Elon Musk. Musk also revealed that Autopark is getting a new name, which appears to be "Banish."
Musk stated earlier this month that Tesla would have some "really cool stuff coming this month and next," leaving owners and fans to speculate on what might be in store.
While many owners have requested improvements to features such as the Auto Wipers, Tesla has been working behind the scenes to improve some of its semi-autonomous driving features and specific aspects of Enhanced Autopilot, such as Summon and Autopark.
Musk said on X that those changes and improvements will be revealed sometime in April.
While the summon feature, which allows a vehicle owner to summon the vehicle to their location, has been helpful, it has also had some drawbacks. Improvements could increase the Summon feature's accuracy and confidence when navigating parking lots.
Tesla is also expected to release Autopark improvements in April, though the feature will be renamed banish.
Banish will likely refer to making a vehicle disappear and find its parking spot without the driver having to park it or even be present manually. At the same time, it considers and pulls into a space.
This would improve the ownership experience and accelerate progress toward greater autonomy in Tesla vehicles.
