Contrary to initial speculations, Netflix is set to open its palace doors once again for “The Crown” for its sixth and final installment. Show creator Peter Morgan surprised everyone when he altered his decision to discontinue the royal drama after the fifth season in July 2020. Here is everything we know about the upcoming “The Crown” Season 6.
‘The Crown’ Season 6 Release Date
The highly-anticipated “The Crown” Season 6 will be split into two. Part 1 will premiere on November 16, while Part 2 will hit the small screens on December 14.
Previous installments were released in the fall, thus a late 2023 premiere date for “The Crown” Season 6 was expected. Filming for the show’s final installment started in September 2022.
‘The Crown’ Season 6 Spoilers
Most, if not all, fans can recall that Season 5 ended shortly before Princess Diana left on a vacation with Mohamed and Dodi Fayed. “The Crown” Season 6, per Collider, will cover from 1997 through 2005.
“The Crown” Season 6 Part 1, the first four episodes, will delve into Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s romance, including the tragic car crash that caused their demise. On the other hand, Part 2, the last six episodes, will feature Prince William adjusting to his life at Eton following his mom’s passing, Queen Elizabeth contemplating the future of the monarchy on her Golden Jubilee, the marriage of King Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, and the relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
In other words, viewers would not see any episode highlighting the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011, the decision of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to step back from royal duties, and the royal exit of Prince Andrew due to his alleged involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein.
Peter Morgan previously told Town & Country that he is relieved not to cover recent events. “The Meghan and Harry story is nowhere near over yet. And I’m happy that I’m never going to write it,” he said.
‘The Crown’ Season 6 Cast
Netflix previously confirmed that Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth in both Season 5 and Season 6, with Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Dominic West as King Charles, and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker-Bowles. Elizabeth Debicki will reprise her role as Princess Diana for the first four episodes of “The Crown” Season 6.
Salim Daw will repeat his role as Mohamed Al Fayed and Khalid Abdalla will play Dodi Fayed in “The Crown” Season 6. The showrunners also announced casting for the younger versions of Kate Middleton and Prince William in September 2022.
Prince William will be played by two actors in “The Crown” Season 6: Rufus Kampa, 16, and Ed McVey, 21. Both actors are fresh to the theater, though McVey has performed frequently in London. On the other hand, Kate Middleton will be played by Meg Bellamy.
Both Meg and Rufus were identified after submitting casting clips to a social media open call. Fflyn Edwards will play Prince Harry as a child, while Luther Ford will play him as a teen in “The Crown” Season 6.
