‘The Mummy’ reboot officially wrapped production in London ahead of the June 2017 premiere. New photographs released showed Tom Cruise and co-star Annabelle Wallis together on the filming set. The two looked to be shooting a scene that involved a lot of running.
According to Den of Geek, production for Universal’s upcoming reboot of ‘The Mummy’ officially wrapped in London on July 17. Principal photography began on April 2016 in Oxford. It also took place in Surrey.
The new film is intended as the first in a series of films under Universal’s interconnected monster movie universe. It will be directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts. Tom Cruise is playing the lead role as Navy Seal Tyler Colt, a special forces soldier who goes on a mission in the Iraqi desert to go after a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker.
Sophia Boutella of ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ fame is portraying the latest incarnation of the titular villain much unlike the original monster made famous by Boris Karloff in the original 1932 film directed by Karl Freund. Behind-the-scenes photographs of Boutella in full costume and make-up as the mummy were recently released online.
Annabelle Wallis was also cast to play a female lead named Jenny Halsey, an archaeologist, while Russell Crowe is set to portray Dr. Henry Jekyll. It was reported that Crowe’s involvement in the first film will introduce his character into the monster universe. It remains unknown if Crowe will also appear as Dr. Jekyll’s dark half Mr. Hyde.
According to Movie Web, Cruise and Wallis were photographed together on the filming set. One image showed the co-stars doing some stretches before taking on a scene. Another image showed the two running from an unseen threat.
‘The Mummy’ reboot is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017 in the United States. It is directed and co-produced by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts. Sean Daniel, Chris Morgan, and Roberto Orci are also serving as producers while Sarah Bradshaw, Bobby Cohen and Barbara Muschietti are executive producing.
