Donald Trump has accepted an invitation from King Charles for a state visit to Britain, making him the first elected leader in modern history to receive two state visits from a British monarch.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally delivered the invitation to Trump at the White House, where the U.S. president read it aloud and admired the King’s signature. Trump immediately confirmed his attendance, stating he and First Lady Melania Trump were honored to accept. No date for the visit has been announced.
Trump previously visited the UK in 2019 during his first term, attending a lavish state banquet and meeting Queen Elizabeth II and then-Prince Charles. His earlier 2018 trip included tea at Windsor Castle, but he sparked controversy by breaching royal protocol.
Trump joins an exclusive list of U.S. presidents granted state visits, alongside Barack Obama and George W. Bush. His past visits drew significant protests, with security costs exceeding £14 million. The upcoming visit is expected to highlight the strong U.S.-UK relationship.
