U.S. President Donald Trump has come to the defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi, addressing backlash from conservative circles over the Justice Department's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. In a nearly 400-word Truth Social post, Trump criticized the growing dissent within his base, stating, “We’re on one team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening,” while praising Bondi as doing a “fantastic job.”
The controversy follows a joint memo released by the FBI and Justice Department confirming that there is no evidence supporting conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s 2019 death or a so-called client list. The memo concluded Epstein died by suicide and that no incriminating client list or blackmail material was found after analyzing more than 300 gigabytes of data.
Bondi had previously stirred anticipation in February by suggesting the Epstein client list was on her desk, a comment she later clarified as referring broadly to Epstein-related files and others, including JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. investigations. Her remarks triggered criticism from prominent conservatives, including Laura Loomer and Elon Musk, who accused her and FBI Director Kash Patel of failing to deliver on promises of transparency.
Tensions have also reportedly escalated internally. U.S. media outlets such as Fox News and NBC News reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino clashed with Bondi and is considering resignation over the matter. Both Bongino and Patel, before joining the FBI, had promoted theories that the government was concealing Epstein-related evidence.
Despite years of speculation and public pressure, Monday’s memo reaffirms prior findings that no criminal foul play was involved in Epstein’s death while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.
As scrutiny mounts, Trump is urging unity within his MAGA base, calling for support rather than internal division.
