U.S. President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday that a deal to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza could be reached soon. Speaking to reporters after returning from New York, Trump said he had been discussing the issue on his flight back to Washington. “We’re working on a solution that may be very good,” he noted, adding that the aim is to end the conflict and bring the hostages home.
Earlier, Trump issued what he called his “last warning” to Hamas, urging the group to accept his terms. On Truth Social, he stated: “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
Hamas confirmed receiving proposals from the U.S. through mediators and said discussions were underway. The group reiterated that it was open to a full hostage release if Israel announced an official end to the war and withdrew forces from Gaza.
According to Israel’s N12 News, Trump’s proposed ceasefire would include Hamas releasing the remaining 48 hostages on the first day of the truce in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners. Negotiations on a permanent end to the war would take place during the ceasefire. An Israeli official said the plan is being “seriously considered.”
Trump expressed optimism, saying he believed all hostages would eventually be returned, though he acknowledged some may already have died. In that case, their bodies would be repatriated.
The potential agreement marks one of the most significant developments in months of stalled negotiations. Both sides remain cautious, but the possibility of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire could shift momentum toward ending the ongoing Gaza conflict.
