Ubisoft was one of the major publishers that left Steam a few years back, but that is going to change soon. The company confirmed that after three years, some of its games will be available again on Valve’s PC storefront, starting with “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”
Earlier this month, pieces of evidence started appearing in the wild that suggested Ubisoft was making a comeback on Steam. Someone noticed that the “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” page on Ubisoft Connect was updated, and the code made a reference to Steam.
It sparked speculations that the game will be one of the AAA games from Ubisoft that will be sold on Steam for the first time in three years. The publisher’s plans became more apparent when, a few days later, its free-to-play 3v3 sports game “Roller Champions” briefly appeared on SteamDB.
Ubisoft has since confirmed the games’ imminent launch on Steam. “We're constantly evaluating how to bring our games to different audiences wherever they are while providing a consistent player ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect,” the publisher told Eurogamer. Ubisoft also confirmed that “Assassin's Creed Valhalla,” “Roller Champions,” and the city-builder sim “Anno 1800” are among the games to be released on Steam.
“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” already has a product page on Steam, confirming that it will be available on the PC storefront starting Tuesday, Dec. 6. This coincides with the release of the game’s final content update, which will introduce an epilogue called the Last Chapter. But developers already said it is not getting a New Game+ mode.
“Roller Champions” and “Anno 1800” do not have their Steam pages yet. And Ubisoft did not specifically state if they will be available on the digital store on the same day as “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.” But considering they were all confirmed at the same time, their Steam availability could at least be close to one another.
Ubisoft announced the next mainline series installment “Assassin’s Creed: Mirage” in September. The game is set in ninth-century Baghdad and will have Basim Ibn Ishaq as the main protagonist. It is slated to be released sometime in 2023 on PC and consoles, but it remains to be seen if the game will be sold on Steam at launch.
