Vice President Kamala Harris' allies have initiated efforts to attract Democratic donors and secure financial backing for her in the event that President Joe Biden withdraws from the 2024 race.
According to sources, a Democratic donor adviser is gathering commitments from female Democratic donors to back Harris. A women's political organization also contacts its donor network to secure early contributions for a potential Harris campaign.
Due to Harris' susceptible political position as Joe Biden's running mate and the internal difficulties within the Democratic Party regarding Biden's future, the sources are speaking on the condition of anonymity.
“What’s important is that there’s a massive show of support for her right away, which shows a signal that we’re all in for her,” a leader of the women’s political organization granted anonymity to speak about sensitive Democratic Party planning said, Politico reported.
The organization has commenced the process of producing emails and communications. Supporters who prioritize assisting female candidates have already been strategizing to provide rapid and substantial support to Harris. As stated by the source, they have prepared lists of donations in advance. According to the source, certain donors have already expressed their intention to provide money proactively.
According to the political leader, donors are eagerly offering their support to Harris as soon as she becomes a likely candidacy. "We have received feedback from all of our donors indicating their desire to provide support for her."
The political leader explicitly stated that making complete pledges at this stage was premature.
According to the donor consultant, five donors have already pledged to potentially make gifts in the six-figure range to support a Democratic ticket with Harris as the leading candidate. However, the individual cautioned that despite some progress, the current campaign funding situation remains in its early stages and would become uncertain if numerous women ultimately compete for the nomination.
The endeavor is occurring amidst disorder among Democratic Party officials, persistent demands for Joe Biden to resign, and discouraging polling outcomes, which portend a progressively bleak outlook for the president's prospects of securing a second term. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi have individually and confidentially advised President Biden to reconsider his decision to run for reelection. This counsel stems from growing concerns that Biden's candidacy may negatively affect Democratic candidates in lower-level races during the November elections.
Following a presidential debate that raised significant doubts about the president's mental sharpness, Biden's fundraising efforts have declined. Some individuals have said that they will withhold financial support from a Democratic ticket if Biden is the main candidate.
However, the growing support to strengthen Harris' position, driven by female contributors, also indicates that her role as a potential successor to Biden is subject to change. If an open convention were to occur, individuals such as California Governor Gavin Newsom or Illinois Governor JB Pritzker may emerge as potential candidates. Newsom, who has access to unparalleled resources in California, is an influential fundraiser and representative for the party, while Pritzker is a billionaire inheritor of the Hyatt Hotel fortune.
