Tensions between China and many other countries like the US, Australia, and Japan remain high, with a possibility of starting a world war in the slightest miscalculation. Fears of a military conflict have since been stoked when Japan is calling for its allies to come together and stand up against China’s increasing acts of aggression.
Sky News Australia anchor Peter Gleeson and political reporter Claire Armstrong weighed in on the recent comments made by Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, who called on the country’s allies to confront China. Armstrong said that Japan is becoming more and more concerned regarding the aggression by Beijing. Armstrong added that it is possible that Japan is becoming increasingly concerned about China’s impact in the region.
Armstrong also said that Australia is also just as concerned about China’s behavior on the international stage and is looking to possibly preparing for a conflict with Beijing.
“This call coincides with what is always bubbling away among the liberal democrats in Japan but getting louder around Japan’s ability to defend itself,” said Armstrong. “Obviously since the end of World War II, they have had a very limited capacity to having a standing defense force and the kind of things they can do militarily themselves. To have them calling out to an ally like Australia and saying we’re particularly concerned now more than ever is just another piece in this growing picture.”
Armstrong also noted that another reason that the situation is becoming increasingly concerning is due to Japan’s proximity to China. With Japan’s close proximity to China, Japan becomes more at risk of Beijing’s antagonism.
The tensions with China are just among the many conflicts that could possibly trigger another world war, as the pandemic has only contributed to the added strains in international relations. Express reports which flashpoints could lead to another war if tensions further escalate. One of which is between the US and Iran, which could lead to another outbreak of war in other countries such as Syria and Yemen and an increase in missile strikes in the Middle East.
Another point of conflict is also between Iran and Israel, with both countries engaging in what has been described as a shadow war. Iran has shown support towards anti-Israel groups in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. Israel, on the other hand, has often clashed with Iranian forces in the region.
