Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed hope that renewed momentum in the Middle East peace process could also pave the way to ending his country’s prolonged conflict with Russia. Speaking on the eve of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of international cooperation and strong defense partnerships in securing Ukraine’s future.

"We have a meeting planned with President Trump tomorrow, and we are counting on the impulse to curb terror and war that worked in the Middle East to help end Russia’s war against Ukraine," Zelenskiy stated on Telegram. He added that the “language of strength and justice” should be equally effective in dealing with Moscow’s aggression.

Although he did not directly comment on Trump’s agreement to hold new talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelenskiy noted that Russia seemed eager to reopen dialogue. "Upon hearing of Tomahawks, Moscow is in a hurry to renew dialogue," he remarked, referring to Trump’s indication that the U.S. might consider supplying Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles.

Zelenskiy also revealed that he was in discussions with leading defense manufacturers to enhance Ukraine’s military capabilities. These talks, he said, focused on acquiring advanced air defense systems and other modern weaponry to strengthen national defense and protect critical energy infrastructure from potential attacks.

As Ukraine’s war with Russia stretches beyond three and a half years, Zelenskiy’s strategy underscores a dual approach — diplomatic engagement backed by a strong defense posture. By aligning with the United States and leveraging global momentum for peace, the Ukrainian leader aims to bring stability to his nation while deterring further aggression.
