I study the relationship between mobility, identity, and sovereignty. My work focuses on migration, asylum, borders, and their representation in life narrative, with particular attention to Mediterranean migration to Europe, and a focus on the Italian context. I use ethnographic methods, including oral history, and narrative/discourse analysis. My articles have appeared in the European Journal of Life Writing, a/b: auto/biography, and Contexts. My current project, Emergency in Transit, investigates discourses and experiences of emergency in the context of contemporary Mediterranean migration to Italy, analyzing oral history interviews and published life narratives.
