Gemma Catney

Lecturer in Human Geography, University of Liverpool

Dr Gemma Catney is Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Liverpool. She is a Population Geographer with research interests in internal migration, and ethnic residential segregation and mixing in Britain. Her research centres on understanding the evolution of ethnically diverse neighbourhoods and on the existence, and persistence over time, of ethnic inequalities.

She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on these themes, and has attracted research funding from the Leverhulme Trust, Economic and Social Research Council, British Academy, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers

Her research has been used as evidence in government reviews, cited in numerous policy reports, and featured in the national and local press.
