Charles-Francois de Lannoy

Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering, McMaster University
Charles-François de Lannoy is an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at McMaster University.

Charles is a pioneer in the development of advanced porous materials and electrochemical techniques for remediating the environment. He currently works on 1) advanced membrane technologies 2) environmental applications of nanomaterials and 3) co-developing solutions to First Nations drinking water crises. Many of these projects are in collaboration with industrial partners and First Nations groups.

Before joining McMaster, Charles was a visiting scholar in the Energy Materials & Systems Lab at PARC, a Xerox Company, in Palo Alto, CA, USA, where he worked on various proprietary green energy technologies including a novel CO2 captures process. During his time at PARC in conjunction with X (formerly Google X), he built a pilot scale system for the efficient separation of CO2 from the atmosphere. Charles completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering in the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University, received his PhD from Duke University in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a Certificate in Nanoscience in 2014, and his Honours B.Sc. in Physics from McGill University in 2008.

He currently holds three US Patents, has published over 30 papers in top journals in his field, and given 25 talks at international conferences. He has won several awards for his work including a Xerox Excellence award and the Duke Nanoscience Fellowship.
