Kelly Hall

Lecturer in Social Policy, University of Birmingham

Kelly is a Lecturer in Social Policy based in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. She is the co-ordinator for the Postgraduate Policy into Practice programme.

Kelly’s research interests include ageing, health/social care, migration and the third sector. Her research into international retirement migration focuses on the migration and return of vulnerable, older British people within the EU.

Over the last few years, she has undertaken a number of studies in collaboration with Age UK, Age Concern España and the British Consulate to explore the lived experiences of older British people in Spain and their access to informal and formal care and support. She has also undertaken research into health and social care social enterprises and micro enterprises, including public service mutual and NHS spin outs. Her research has used a participatory approach by including vulnerable groups as co-researchers to design, implement and disseminate research. Her research has been published as papers in journals such as Ageing and Society and Public Management Review, as well as in book chapters and as a co-authored book.

Kelly joinedthe Department in August 2013 as a Lecturer in Social Policy. She had previously worked as Lecturer in Socioloy at the University of Northampton, before which she worked as a Research Fellow for the Health Services Management Centre, University of Birmingham.
