Reader in Virtual Reality, University of Portsmouth
I originally trained as a Chiropractor, then after practicing for a number of years, returned to University to get a degree in in Computing and a PhD in Creative Technologies, studying walking behaviour in virtual reality. Since 2008, I have led the Virtual Reality teaching and research in the School of Creative Technologies at the University of Portsmouth.
I am an active researcher in VR and interactive technologies for health, well-being and education, and also study the impact of hardware and software on user behaviour and perception. I work as a VR consultant for a variety of projects and I am a Senior member and Technical Expert for the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)
I have secured research funding from a wide range of sources, including research councils and industry, and work with academic and commercial partners in the UK and internationally.
