ANA Holdings Inc. is betting big on Southeast Asia's post-pandemic leisure travel rebound. As part of its strategy, the airline's low-cost brand, AirJapan, will inaugurate a Narita-Bangkok route, highlighting enhanced service offerings at competitive prices.
As part of AirJapan's inaugural offerings, ANA recently announced the commencement of a Narita-Bangkok route in February of next year. This route will operate six round-trip flights per week. The "Simple" service, available at a one-way fare starting from 15,500 yen, offers a superior experience compared to other ANA group low-cost carriers like Peach Aviation.
AirJapan differentiates itself by providing additional options, such as the "Standard" and "Selected" services, including a wider variety of meal choices and checked baggage allowances. The pricing structure aims to entice families in Southeast Asia to seek a higher level of service quality than traditional low-cost carriers. ANA highlights that AirJapan features more legroom and better meal options on its spacious 324-seat Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
Passengers can pre-select meals, including delightful Japanese dishes like chicken and egg rice bowls and sushi. Looking ahead, ANA is considering expanding its route network from Kansai International Airport, catering to travelers in western Japan.
ANA expects AirJapan's low-cost operations to generate profits by serving routes that may not be viable for its full-service ANA brand. The ANA Group's other low-cost carrier, Peach Aviation, primarily focuses on domestic routes but has also ventured into international services, connecting travelers to popular destinations like Bangkok, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei.
With the lifting of COVID-19 border control measures by the Japanese government in late April, the number of foreign visitors to Japan has surged. The weakened yen has also further heightened Japan's appeal as a travel destination, according to ANA.
This strategic expansion into Southeast Asia signals ANA's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of travelers while contributing to the revival of the aviation and tourism sectors in the post-pandemic landscape.
