The fifth beta update for the Android 12 has been released, and Google confirmed this will be the last patch before it launches the operating system upgrade’s full version to the public. This means almost all that will be added and changed in Android 12 are now available to try in the Android 12 beta 5.

Android 12 beta 5 features, compatibility

Aside from the list of new features launched in Android 12 beta 5, the update has also expanded the list of compatible devices to add the newly released Pixel 5a. People who also own any device from the Pixel 3, 3a, 4, 4a, and 5 series and are enrolled in the Android beta program should be able to try the new update.

Reports have noted several additions in the Android 12 beta 5, such as the redesigned calculator using the Material You layout. The Google Clock version 7.0 also received a Material You revamp, along with the addition of new widgets.

Google has also released the Device Search function in Android 12 beta 5. It works like the old Google Search bar that can be accessed from the top drawer, except it will allow users to search files stored on their device instead of searching keywords on the web.

There have been reported changes in the At a Glance widget, but it does not seem to be fully working yet. There are also reports that the widget could be replaced with a newly seen feature called Live Spaces. However, Android users may have to wait for the full version to determine how Google will resolve this.

Android 12 full version’s release date

The release of the Android 12 beta 5 is an important progress in the development of the next OS version. Google VP of Engineering Dave Burke confirmed in a blog post on Wednesday that it will be the final update before the OS upgrade officially launches.

An exact release for the full version of Android 12 has yet to be announced. But Burke said it should arrive in “a few weeks.” That means it could go live sometime in October, the same month when the Pixel 6 series is rumored to launch.
