Former President Barack Obama is a very influential figure in politics and more specifically the Democratic party from which he hails. However, weighing in on the demographics in the elections, Obama shared why there are black men who have chosen to vote for his successor Donald Trump.
In his three-part interview with Snapchat’s Good Luck America, Obama revealed why there are black men who may have voted for Trump during the elections compared to Joe Biden. The former president revealed that it may have something to do with how Trump likes to present himself. Obama also touched on the Democratic party’s presumption that it has secured certain communities’ votes.
“Well look, I think men generally are more susceptible to public figures who act tough, sort of like the stereotypical macho style. I don’t think Black men are immune to that any more than white or Hispanic men are,” said Obama.
In terms of demographics, the former president also warned that Democrats cannot always assume that they have secured the votes of African-Americans and thus should not take their votes for granted. “We can’t generalize and just assume, well, we got Black folks in our pockets or we’ve got Hispanics locked up, and for that matter, we shouldn’t assume that we can’t win white men.”
Rappers like Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, and 50 Cent have been known to endorse Trump or at least his policies prior to the elections. However, 50 Cent clarified his stance and said he voted for Biden especially after the president-elect presented his tax plan during the campaign.
As the United States continues to be devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been some skepticism surrounding the vaccines that pharmaceutical companies are currently developing. Obama, along with his predecessors George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, has agreed to publicly get vaccinated. Obama revealed that he is willing to be among those who get vaccinated for COVID-19 and shared that he is also willing to have it filmed in order to instill confidence in the science behind the possible vaccines.
Freddy Ford, an aide for Bush, also expressed that the former president is also willing to get vaccinated once one is available and deemed safe for those in need. Clinton’s spokesperson also revealed that he is also willing to get vaccinated and have it filmed to bring confidence to the public.
