In Season 4 of “The Blacklist,” fans have finally been treated the answer to the show’s biggest question: Is Red (James Spader) really Liz’s (Megan Boone) biological father?
Digital Spy said the answer came into a form of a DNA test conducted by Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix). The test results came back confirming Red’s connection to Liz, which hounded fans since he first offered his services to her and the US government back in Season 1. Cooper intended to settle the debate by using Red’s blood sample that was stored long before he turned into a master criminal.
But just like a very good TV show, it does not mean that even as solid as a DNA test result would confirm the paternal connection. “Blacklist” executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly, “Liz has learned that Red is her father, and yet there is a much bigger secret that is out there that presents a real problem.”
Although he did confirm that the test is accurate, some fans are speculating that there’s more to the revelation. One theory dictates that the Red we’ve always known is not Red. According to this theory, Red is an imposter, and that the proof could lie in the bones Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) unearthed, which are now currently being shipped to Liz, much to Red’s disdain. Although odds are saying that the bones belong to Liz’s mother, Katarina (Lotte Verbeek). Bokenkamp, on the other hand, is not dismissing the possibility that the theory could be right.
“Because it is part of the truth, but not the entire [thing]. There is a larger reason for him entering her life, a bigger secret that is also revealed in this episode, so while it is part of the story, it is not the entire story,” he added.
