Among Donald Trump’s most staunch critics is none other than his niece Mary Trump. Mary has since weighed in on her uncle’s recent behaviors following his election loss, saying that he belongs in prison after his stint in the White House is over.
Speaking with the Associated Press this week, Ms. Trump, who is also a clinical psychologist, dismissed the possibility of prosecuting the outgoing president. Mary cited that putting Trump on trial would further divide the country rather than unite them as what president-elect Joe Biden is seeking to do. Ms. Trump further blasted her uncle, saying that if there is anyone who deserves imprisonment, it would be him.
Mary, who has written a book that gives a scathing look on her uncle’s upbringings titled “Too Much and Never Enough,” was a bestseller. Ms. Trump announced that she will be writing a follow-up to the book. She is the daughter of Trump’s late older brother Fred Trump Jr. and is the outgoing president’s only niece. Her announcement of her follow-up book also comes as her uncle continues to claim that he has won the election despite Biden’s wins already being certified in battleground states.
Ms. Trump also touched on her uncle’s post-election behavior. “This is somebody who’s never legitimately won in his life,” said Ms. Trump. “But he’s never lost either. Because in his view, winning is so important and he always deserves to win that it’s okay to lie, cheat, and steal.” Mary added, “It’s not simply that Donald is horrible and incompetent and cruel. It’s that he’s been allowed to be. Every transgression that’s gone on unpunished has been an opportunity for him to push the envelope even further.”
Trump, on the other hand, continues to contest the already certified-results in battleground states that went to Biden despite being mostly unsuccessful. As the country moves closer to the inauguration in January, people familiar with the matter have revealed to CNN that Trump and his campaign’s efforts to contest the votes are reportedly ending soon. This is despite Trump’s public comments that his legal team will continue to contest the results.
This follows the news that his lawyer Rudy Giuliani, tested positive for COVID-19. This led to speculation that their efforts to contest the results in the courts would sooner or later come to an end.
