Donald Trump is still not conceding to Joe Biden’s win, more than a month after the November election in the U.S. Rather than admitting his defeat, the POTUS filed multiple cases in several states to stop the counting of ballots or demand a recount.
Unfortunately, almost all his protests were dismissed by the courts. Up to now, the president continues to claim there was a massive voter fraud to throw him out of the White House. Even if the Electoral College already announced Joe Biden’s win, Donald Trump remained adamant and vowed to prove he was cheated.
The voter fraud investigations
To begin with his aim to show he really won in the election, an investigation for the alleged fraud was launched. This weekend, the president suggested a name of who will be the special counsel for the investigation and mentioned Sidney Powell, a controversial lawyer who was dropped by Trump’s campaign group in November after accusing some Republican elected officials of being involved in the plan to change the results of the election.
As per Bloomberg, the POTUS made the suggestion on Friday during a meeting that also includes his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. Then again, it was said that any move to assign Powell in any role within the investigation group is likely to cause issues as people will question the validity of her appointment as a special counsel.
This is because the president is personally choosing her. Usually, it is the Attorney General who assigns special counsels. Also, there are officials in the government who don’t believe in Donald Trump’s claims that there was voter fraud, thus the investigation itself may be questioned. But then, at this point, it is not certain if Powell’s assignment will still push through.
The alleged cheating theories that Trump believes to be true
One of the conspiracy theories that Donald Trump thinks is true is that Hugo Chavez, the former Venezuelan president, acted to manipulate the elections by altering with voting software. The president continues to believe this even though the Department of Justice and the Homeland Security already said that they did not find any evidence of cheating in the election. Another thing is that the POTUS said that thousands of ballots were added in favor of Biden.
ABC News reported that a number of Republicans have repeatedly stated that there is no proof in the claims of widespread voter fraud. Their statement comes after Donald Trump still alleged he lost due to the tampering of votes. In the end, the Electoral College confirmed Joe Biden’s win with votes of 306 against Trump’s 232.
