Yesterday, the U.S. Commerce Department announced that it is initiating an investigation into imports of certain chemical, strontium Chromate to be specific to determine whether exporters from these countries are dumping the above-mentioned chemical in the United States at rates below the fair value.
The investigation was initiated based on a petition filed by Lumimove Inc., d.b.a. WPC Technologies, on September 5, 2018. The petition is alleging dumping margins to the tune of 90.97 percent for Austria, and 47.91 percent for France.
According to the department, U.S. imports of strontium chromate from Austria and France were valued at an estimated $4.5 million and $785,600, respectively in 2017. The department would announce its preliminary findings by February next year.
Under President Trump, the U.S. Commerce Department has significantly stepped up its investigations into foreign malpractices in trade and the number of investigations initiated is 226 percent more than the previous administration.
