Iran has accused the United States of aiding Israel in its recent military attacks, escalating tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program. During an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting, Iran’s Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani claimed Washington shares responsibility for the consequences of Israel’s strikes, stating, “Those who support this regime, with the United States at the forefront, must understand that they are complicit.”
The conflict intensified on Friday when Iran launched retaliatory strikes on Israel following Israeli attacks on multiple Iranian nuclear sites, including Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. U.N. nuclear chief Rafael Grossi confirmed the Natanz pilot enrichment facility was destroyed and other key sites were hit.
Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon defended the strikes as "an act of national preservation," accusing Iran of preparing for war and undermining diplomatic efforts. He warned that Tehran was close to acquiring enough fissile material for multiple nuclear bombs.
U.S. officials denied involvement in the strikes, although senior official McCoy Pitt acknowledged Washington was informed beforehand. He emphasized the U.S. is committed to a diplomatic resolution that prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “Iran’s leadership would be wise to negotiate at this time,” Pitt said.
President Donald Trump revealed that a 60-day ultimatum given to Iran to reach a deal on its uranium enrichment program expired Thursday. A sixth round of nuclear negotiations, previously scheduled in Oman, now remains uncertain amid the deepening crisis.
As accusations fly, the region faces mounting instability, with the international community urging restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. The United States continues to push for a peaceful solution while denying direct military involvement in the latest Israeli actions.
