Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated overnight as both countries launched fresh strikes. Israeli rescue teams searched for survivors amid rubble, with at least 10 Israelis killed and over 300 injured since Iran’s attacks began Friday. A missile strike in Bat Yam left dozens missing, and Iranian missiles prompted air raid sirens in Jerusalem and Haifa, sending millions into shelters.
Iran claims 78 fatalities on the first day of Israeli strikes and dozens more on the second, including 29 children killed when a 14-storey apartment collapsed in Tehran. Israel also reportedly hit the Shahran oil depot and a refinery, causing fires, and damaged the Iranian defense ministry building.
Iran partially halted production at South Pars, the world’s largest gas field, following a reported Israeli missile strike. This marks the first hit on Iran’s energy infrastructure and raised fears of broader energy disruption. Oil prices surged 9% Friday amid conflict-related concerns.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran not to target American interests, promising massive retaliation but claimed a peace deal between Iran and Israel could be achieved. He provided no details.
Iran cancelled nuclear talks with the U.S. scheduled in Oman, citing Israel’s “barbaric” attacks. Tehran has also warned that military bases of Israel’s allies could become targets if they intervene.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed missile attacks on central Israel, adding to regional concerns. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu said the current response is minor compared to what’s planned, urging Iranians to oppose their government. Israel justifies its offensive as necessary to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions, though Tehran insists its program is peaceful. The U.N. nuclear watchdog recently accused Iran of treaty violations, heightening international alarm over the rapidly deteriorating situation.
