Joe Biden is busy with the transition process after winning his presidential bid in the November election. While appointing people for his administration and planning for the future of America, his son Hunter Biden seems to be tarnishing his name by getting involved in controversies.
In the latest news, it was reported that Hunter Biden said that he is being investigated by the FBI for his tax affairs. Donald Trump already accused him of corruption before so this situation could be used against Joe Biden again.
The investigation on Hunter’s tax case
The president-elect’s son revealed on Dec. 9 that the attorney’s office in Delaware opened a federal investigation on his taxes. Hunter said that his lawyer informed him that the FBI started the investigation on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” The Daily Mail quoted Hunter as saying in a statement that was released by the Biden-Harris Transition team.
Hunter Biden added that he takes this matter seriously and confident that nothing will be found against him as he certainly handled his tax affairs legally and appropriately. He also has professional tax advisers who assist him so there should be no problem.
The publication contacted the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office to ask about the origin and what exactly Hunter Biden is being investigated for. In a statement sent to the Daily Mail, the spokesperson of the said office simply said they can’t comment since it is an ongoing investigation.
But then again, it was suggested that it could be related to Joe Biden’s son’s business dealings in China and Ukraine. Hunter was said to have greatly profited from his father’s political position while doing business overseas.
Joe Biden stands by his son’s side
As noted by CNBC, the probe was revealed just five days before Joe Biden is set to be formally selected by the Electoral College as the US’ 46th president. And even with this controversy, the president-elect showed his support for his son.
“President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger,” the transition office said in a statement that was released on Wednesday.
