Over the past week, former vice president Joe Biden continued to move closer towards becoming the Democratic nominee. Over the weekend, Biden moves even closer as he secures the Wyoming Democratic caucus.
The Hill reports that Biden won the Democratic presidential caucus held in Wyoming. The former vice president gained 72.2 percent of the votes, with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders receiving only 27.8 percent. Wyoming canceled their in-person voting due to the coronavirus concerns and thus the residents were made to mail in their votes. Biden’s win also secures him 10 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. The results follow almost two weeks since Sanders announced that he will be bowing out of the presidential race, making Biden the presumptive nominee.
The past week, Biden received major endorsements one after the other, from Sanders himself, followed by President Barack Obama and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren as well as his former rivals. Former First Lady Michelle Obama is also expected to make her endorsement of Biden. The party appears to be making an effort to unite for Biden to beat President Donald Trump in the November elections.
Recently, an interview with Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN saw Biden struggling to explain his thoughts on the Trump administration’s three-phase plan on reopening the United States following the pandemic. After rambling on about the lack of testing being made to Americans, Biden stumbled through his thoughts of the country adopting a policy the US once made during WWII, where President Franklin D. Roosevelt coordinated manufacturing efforts for the war.
“You know, there’s a uh, during World War II, uh, you know, where Roosevelt came up with a thing, uh, that uh, you know, was totally different than a, than the, the, it’s called, he called it the, you know, the World War II, he had the war, the War Production Board...I don’t know why we don’t set up something like the pandemic production board,” said Biden.
The former vice president has often criticized the Trump administration for their slow response to the pandemic. Biden has since put together his own team of health experts, including former appointees from the Obama administration.
