Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has agreed to join the proposed “Board of Peace,” an international initiative put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to statements from Tokayev’s spokesperson. The announcement highlights Kazakhstan’s intention to play a constructive role in promoting global stability and contributing to peace efforts in the Middle East, particularly amid ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Tokayev’s spokesperson, Ruslan Zheldibay, confirmed that the Kazakh leader formally accepted the invitation in a letter addressed to Trump, expressing gratitude for the offer and signaling Kazakhstan’s readiness to participate in the new body. According to Zheldibay, Tokayev emphasized his country’s commitment to fostering lasting peace in the Middle East, strengthening trust between states, and supporting broader international stability. The development was first reported by Kazakhstan’s Tengri news outlet.
The “Board of Peace,” as outlined in a draft charter and invitation letter seen by Reuters, would be chaired for life by Donald Trump. The initiative is expected to begin its work by focusing on the Gaza conflict before potentially expanding its mandate to address other international and regional disputes. Trump has reportedly invited leaders from around 60 countries to join the board, positioning it as a high-profile forum for dialogue and conflict resolution.
However, the proposal also includes a significant financial component. Permanent membership on the Board of Peace would be available to countries willing to contribute $1 billion, a detail that has drawn attention from analysts and observers of global diplomacy. While it remains unclear how many nations will seek permanent status, Kazakhstan’s early acceptance places it among the first countries to publicly endorse the initiative.
Kazakhstan has traditionally pursued a multi-vector foreign policy, balancing relations with major global powers while promoting dialogue and mediation. Tokayev’s decision to join the Board of Peace aligns with this approach and reinforces the country’s image as an active participant in international peace efforts. As global attention remains focused on the Middle East and other conflict zones, Kazakhstan’s involvement could further elevate its diplomatic profile on the world stage.
