LG Uplus Corporation, a leading mobile network operator in South Korea, unveiled its newest technology offering for its clients and businesses. On Monday, April 8, the company rolled out its chat agent platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
LG Uplus released its "AI Chat Agent," which was created based on its own AI technology called "ixi." According to The Korea Economic Daily, this innovation was created as the LG-owned company is looking for a new growth driver amid the highly competitive local telecom market.
Cutting-Edge AI Chat Agent
Unlike regular bots that were programmed to carry out certain tasks, LG Uplus' AI Agent's function is not limited to a few chores. The Chat Agent platform is an AI-powered chatbot capable of understanding technical queries and commands that were not pre-programmed into it.
This capability allows the platform to offer a more efficient and personalized customer experience. LG Uplus said the technology can also protect customers' personal data. Moreover, the platform can help businesses save time and costs by combining the chat agent with ixi's natural-language understanding (NLU) and large language model (LLM).
Business Solutions for Various Industries
LG Uplus said that its new AI Chat Agent is a business solution that companies would like to have. This is because it can provide the tasks that most customer service centers offer.
"The platform was much more effective than expected for some sectors such as the customer service center," LG Uplus' vice president for AI business unit, Sung Joon Hyun, said in a statement. "We will be able to the ixi-GEN's features and technology from a strategic point of view around the end of the first half."
"AI Agent is a technology that has evolved from a simple bot that automatically performs tasks set by people. It can perform tasks at a level similar to that of humans by understanding and judging new questions or commands on its own," Korea's Hankyoreh News also quoted LG Uplus as saying. "Starting with the launch of the 'Chat Agent' platform that can actively communicate with customers, we will begin pioneering the 'AI agent' market that can be applied to various services such as mobile and Internet TV (IPTV)."
