MediaTek will compete with Qualcomm later this year with the Dimensity 9400, but even if it receives orders from multiple Android phone manufacturers, the Taiwanese company's biggest victory will be securing Samsung as a client for future orders.
According to the latest rumors, the Korean behemoth is being appeased with an exclusive discount, which will allow MediaTek's SoCs to be used in the next smartphone models.
MediaTek Rumored To Offer Samsung A 'Special' Discount On Its Chipsets
Qualcomm has enough breathing room for the time being since, according to tipster Revegnus, MediaTek is proposing a special discount to Samsung for using its chipsets in its low-cost devices.
Given that the Korean company is the world's largest Android phone producer and was recently dethroned by Apple as the world's largest smartphone brand, securing orders from Samsung will help MediaTek increase its market share and provide prospects for future transactions.
For the time being, Samsung does not appear interested in adopting MediaTek's future Dimensity 9400, which is expected to be mass-produced on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Samsung's Strategic Shift: Exploring Alternatives to Qualcomm for Future Galaxy Chips
For starters, Samsung has already arranged with Qualcomm to use its next-generation chipsets in next year's Galaxy S25 family, but the San Diego company may soon be out of the game, as per WCCFTech.
With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 expected to cost $200 per SoC and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 expected to be more expensive than its predecessor, Samsung may prioritize margins over future orders to Qualcomm.
Fortunately, Samsung has plenty of options, including MediaTek and its own Exynos line. Assuming MediaTek offers discounts that make its Dimensity 9400 less expensive than what Samsung pays to manufacture its own SoCs, we could see a future collaboration.
For the time being, MediaTek will take small steps toward a deal, offering a price decrease on low-end silicon rather than making a big leap and proposing an offer for its Dimensity 9300 and Dimensity 9400 chips.
