Netflix already renewed “Narcos: Mexico” for season 2. This could mean that the original “Narcos” series will no longer have a season 4.
It is apparent that the “Narcos” franchise is one of the highly watched Netflix original series considering that the show keeps getting renewed shortly after a new season premieres. For example, the first installment of the series reset “Narcos: Mexico” premiered its 10 episodes in the platform on Nov. 16.
Less than a month later, the entertainment company already confirmed they will release a second season of “Narcos: Mexico.” Despite the announcement and positive feedback on “Narcos: Mexico,” many fans are still wondering if there will ever be a “Narcos” season 4 for the original series.
However, the renewal of “Narcos: Mexico” for season 2 could be a clear indication that the release of “Narcos” season 4 is unlikely happening. The franchise will apparently pursue the storyline on Mexico’s Guadalajara cartel. And there might be a slim chance that Netflix would order a new series to pick up on what the original series has left anytime soon.
“Narcos” went on to have three seasons that started with Pablo Escobar’s (Wagner Moura) story then later transitioning to the rise of the Cali cartel following Escobar’s death. While “Narcos” season 4 was what Netflix originally ordered, the company later confirmed they will pursue a fresh direction with the release of “Narcos: Mexico.”
In the 10 episodes of the latest series, the story covered the beginning and the rise of the Guadalajara cartel. Throughout this chronicle was DEA Agent Kiki Camarena’s (Michael Peña) mission of providing substantial intel to maim the cartel’s operations. Kiki obviously did the job proud, which also put a target on his back. “Narco: Mexico” season 1 ended with Kiki’s death but it also told a clear story that a war between the law enforcement and drug traffickers is just about to start.
The finale episode is titled “Leyenda” which is a nod to DEA’s real-life Operation Leyenda to investigate the death of Kiki. To some, this is regarded as the beginning of the infamous war on drugs in Mexico just like what was implied in “Narcos: Mexico” season 1 finale by the DEA Agent (Scoot McNairy) narrating the events for the viewers.
