Russian forces launched a sustained drone offensive against Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, throughout Thursday, leaving at least two people injured, including an eight-year-old girl. Local officials confirmed the attacks spanned multiple city districts over the course of the day and into the late evening hours.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov provided continuous updates via Telegram, documenting drone strikes across four separate districts within the city. A municipal official confirmed that at least 20 drone impacts were recorded during the prolonged assault. Several strikes ignited fires across affected areas, compounding the destruction caused by the relentless aerial bombardment.
The attacks did not stop at Kharkiv's borders. Further south, the city of Zaporizhzhia also came under Russian fire, with regional governor Ivan Fedorov confirming that a high-rise apartment building and a nearby commercial property sustained damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that particular strike.
Across the border in Russia's Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that 13 residents were wounded following a series of drone attacks. The hardest-hit location was the village of Shebekino, situated just inside Russian territory near the Ukrainian border, where 11 of the injuries occurred.
The latest wave of drone strikes underscores the ongoing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with civilian infrastructure and residential zones continuing to bear the brunt of aerial warfare. International observers and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over the targeting of populated urban areas, calling for greater protections for non-combatants caught in the crossfire.
As the war persists, cities like Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia remain on high alert, with emergency response teams working around the clock to manage the aftermath of each successive attack and provide urgent assistance to affected residents.
