U.S. Senator John Fetterman is back home and recovering after a fall early Thursday morning that led to his hospitalization and required 20 stitches. The Pennsylvania Democrat shared the update on his X.com account, reassuring supporters that he is healing well and grateful for the medical care he received.
According to a spokesperson, Fetterman experienced a ventricular fibrillation flare-up during an early morning walk, causing him to become light-headed and fall. He was taken to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries. In his post, Fetterman expressed appreciation for the hospital staff and confirmed he will be returning to Washington, writing, “20 stitches later and a full recovery, I’m back home… See you back in DC.”
Fetterman, known nationally for his signature hoodies, plainspoken approach, and willingness to challenge his own party, has remained a notable figure in the Senate. Earlier in the week, he was among eight Democrats who joined Republicans in supporting a bipartisan deal aimed at preventing a government shutdown—another example of his independent streak in Congress.
His health has been an ongoing subject of public interest. Fetterman survived a near-fatal stroke in 2022, just months before winning his Senate seat, and has since been open about his medical challenges. In 2023, he briefly checked into a hospital for treatment related to clinical depression, an experience he has discussed openly in an effort to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Despite these hurdles, Fetterman continues to emphasize resilience, transparency, and commitment to his work in the Senate. His latest health scare has prompted renewed attention, but his quick return home and optimistic message signal his intention to stay active in public service. With his recovery underway, supporters and colleagues alike will be watching as he resumes his role in Washington in the coming days.
