George R.R. Martin has already famously dropped the ball for fans of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series that the undead Catelyn Stark will be featuring more prominently in “The Winds of Winter” as Lady Stoneheart.
Martin has already talked publicly about his disappointment when David Benioff and Dan Weiss decided to cut out Catelyn Stark after her fate at the Red Wedding. This has led to the American fantasy author's commitment to strictly not follow the show, in favor of sticking to the material he has already created for the book series.
Considering that the HBO show had seriously deviated from the written material, what can fans expect from the whispering lady when she makes a more significant comeback? Fans know that the last scene that Lady Stoneheart features in is the final chapter of the fourth book, “A Feast for Crows.” Lady Stoneheart's brigands, who were once the men of Lord Beric Dondarrion under the Brotherhood Without Banners, encounter the point-of-view protagonist, Brienne of Tarth, and her companions Podrick Payne and Ser Hyle.
While the fates of Brienne of Tarth and Pordrick Payne have been semi-spoiled by the author himself, as well as Brienne's appearance in a chapter of Jamie Lannister's point of view, it would seem Brienne has been convinced by Lady Stoneheart to be a tool for her vengeance. If such is the case, Martin's spoiler that Lady Stoneheart will play a more important role in “The Winds of Winter” may be alluding to the potential meeting of Jamie Lannister and the now-undead Catelyn Stark. Fans will get to see the risen side of Stark, considering that most of her family have been murdered and now she has a chance to make things right according to her own vision.
“The Winds of Winter” has yet to have a confirmed release date but has been confirmed by Martin to be finalized after his upcoming publication, “Fire & Blood.”
