U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly giving stronger consideration to restarting major military operations against Iran as nuclear negotiations remain stalled and tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to escalate. According to a CNN report released Monday evening, Trump has become increasingly frustrated with Iran’s leadership and the prolonged disruption of one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.
Sources familiar with the matter said the Trump administration is concerned that divisions within Iran’s government are preventing meaningful progress in ongoing nuclear discussions. Trump is also said to be impatient with the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor that has raised fears over oil supply disruptions and market instability.
Despite the rising tensions, the report indicated that Trump is unlikely to make a final decision on expanding military action before his scheduled trip to China later this week. The development follows Trump’s rejection of Iran’s response to a proposed 14-point peace framework. Earlier this week, the U.S. president warned that any potential ceasefire agreement with Tehran was on “major life support.”
Iran appeared unfazed by Trump’s comments. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Tehran was “not concerned with the satisfaction of others,” signaling that diplomatic progress remains uncertain.
The ongoing standoff between Washington and Tehran has intensified around the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has demanded that the United States remove its naval blockade before nuclear talks can move forward. Trump has repeatedly threatened additional strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure but has so far avoided direct escalation.
On Monday, Trump confirmed he was considering reviving “Project Freedom,” a military initiative aimed at restoring commercial shipping access through Hormuz. The operation previously triggered renewed military confrontations with Iran and heightened concerns across global financial and energy markets.
