U.S. forces are now actively coordinating humanitarian aid transfers into the Gaza Strip alongside Israel as part of President Donald Trump’s ceasefire initiative, an Israeli security official confirmed on Saturday. The move marks a significant shift in aid management following a fragile truce between Israel and Hamas.
According to The Washington Post, the newly formed U.S.-led Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) will oversee aid distribution to Gaza, assuming responsibilities that previously fell solely under Israeli control. While the CMCC will lead decision-making on what aid enters the enclave and how it is distributed, Israeli security services remain involved in supervision, policy, and joint decision-making.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem stated that Washington is working closely with Israel and regional partners to advance the next phase of the “historic peace plan.” The U.S. emphasized its commitment to facilitating humanitarian relief and praised increased contributions from international donors participating in the CMCC.
The ceasefire agreement, reached a month ago between Israel and Hamas, temporarily halted a devastating two-year war sparked by the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack. It also included prisoner and hostage exchanges. The CMCC began operating from southern Israel in late October under U.S. Central Command to enhance aid flow and maintain stability in Gaza.
Despite these efforts, aid agencies report that humanitarian supplies remain insufficient. Although the ceasefire stipulates that 600 trucks of aid should enter Gaza daily, only a fraction is currently getting through. The U.S. and Israel continue to discuss proposals to improve delivery systems while maintaining restrictions on dual-use items and non-governmental organizations supplying aid.
The U.S. continues to lead international coordination efforts to alleviate the crisis, signaling ongoing collaboration between Washington, Israel, and global partners in rebuilding war-torn Gaza.
