Donald Trump defeat: Chinese embassy says hackers responsible for its retweet of POTUS' fraud claims

Donald Trump has a little over a month left until he is to move out of the White House following his election loss to Joe Biden. The Chinese embassy has spoken out over a mishap that occurred involving his fraud claims on social media.

The Chinese embassy in the US clarified the agency’s official Twitter account’s retweeting Trump’s claim that Democrats rigged the election. Trump to this day has pushed unfounded claims of voter and election fraud and has been unsuccessful in his attempts to overturn certification of votes in battleground states that he lost to Biden. Recounts of votes have also remained in Biden’s favor. The outgoing president has since ranted and pushed his fraud claims on social media, which the platform has constantly had to flag down and all of which had no evidence.

On Wednesday, the embassy tweeted that they did not retweet Trump’s unproven claim and that hackers were responsible for the mishap. Although the retweet was undone, a Reuters reporter was able to capture a screenshot. “The Chinese Embassy Twitter account was hacked this afternoon and we condemn such an act. For clarification, the Embassy did not do any retweeting on Dec. 9,” they tweeted.

At the same time, Trump has backed the efforts of Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton who is attempting to have the Supreme Court reverse Biden’s win in Trump’s favor. This is despite previously signaling a go-ahead to the General Services Administration to proceed with the mandated transition to Biden’s incoming administration.

To this day, Trump has also refused to publicly concede to his Democratic successor. White House correspondent Maggie Haberman has weighed in as to why Trump is refusing to admit defeat. Haberman explained that Trump is unable to comprehend the concept of being labeled a “loser.”

“He has never before encountered a problem that he couldn’t sue away through the court system or spin away… This is just an objective fact that he can’t do anything about. It is roiling him,” said Haberman, who has covered Trump since 2015. However, despite Trump’s refusal to concede and to push through with his unfounded claims, Haberman said that it is unlikely that the outgoing president would have to be escorted out of the White House.
