Over the weekend, many lawmakers were among the first to receive their vaccinations for COVID-19 except for outgoing president Donald Trump. Surgeon General Jerome Adams revealed why Trump was not among the figures who received a COVID-19 vaccine.
Appearing on CBS Face the Nation over the weekend, Adams revealed that Trump has not taken the vaccine for coronavirus yet as he may still have antibodies that protect him. The surgeon general, who was vaccinated alongside outgoing vice president Mike Pence on live television last week, noted that Trump contracted COVID-19 in October and recovered thanks to a monoclonal drug cocktail administered to him. Trump spent three days in Walter Reed medical center for treatment after testing positive. Outgoing first lady Melania Trump also tested positive at the time, so did their son Barron Trump.
“From a scientific point of view, I will remind people that the president has had COVID within the last 90 days,” said Adams. “He received monoclonal antibodies and that is actually one scenario where we tell people, ‘Maybe you should hold off on getting the vaccine, talk to your health provider to find out the right time.’ Politics aside, there is a medical reason.”
Top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci also weighed in on Trump getting the vaccinations. Dr. Fauci said that it would be good if Trump also received the vaccination. Trump is said to be open to receiving the vaccine but wants to make sure all the workers at the front lines get inoculated first. President-elect Joe Biden received his vaccination this week.
At the same time, Trump announced Monday the long-awaited executive order that would see the renovation of the country’s federal buildings. Early drafts of the executive order stipulated that the buildings of government agencies return to having a classical architectural style. The order comes as Trump only has a month left until Biden is inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States.
The order details examples of classical architecture such as the Second Bank of the United States found in Philadelphia, the Pioneer Courthouse in Portland, Oregon, and the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse in New York City.
