The US team brought back the most medals from the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Following the success of the national team, US President Joe Biden reached out to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to congratulate him on successfully hosting the major sporting event.

The White House released a statement saying that Biden reached out to Suga and congratulated his success in hosting the 2020 Olympic Games that were initially postponed due to the pandemic. Biden also praised the performance of the Japanese athletes as well as the US Olympians. Biden also reiterated his support for Japan, which will be hosting the upcoming Paralympic Games for athletes with disabilities, and noted the COVID-19 protocols that would be put in place.

The US Olympic team brought back the most medals at 113: 39 gold medals, 41 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals. The closing ceremonies for the Olympics took place over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Biden also weighed in on the recent announcement that New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo will be stepping down from his position following the sexual harassment allegations. Biden, along with other Democrats, called for Cuomo to step down after New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James released an official report from her probe into the allegations.

After delivering his remarks on the Senate’s passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, Biden was then pressed on Cuomo’s resignation. Biden said he respected Cuomo’s decision to resign but praised Cuomo’s work as the state’s governor when pressed on what he thought of Cuomo’s policies for the state.

Biden said he thought Cuomo did a “helluva job” as governor, noting his work on voting access to infrastructure and other aspects.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins then pressed Biden on whether he really thinks Cuomo did well as governor despite the allegations. “‘Should he remain as governor?’ that’s one question. And women should be believed when they make accusations that are able to, on the face of them, make sense and investigated...and the judgement was made that what they said was correct. That’s one thing,” said Biden.

“The question is, ‘Did he do a good job at infrastructure?’ That was the question. He did,” Biden added.
