As the COVID-19 vaccines are already being distributed all over the country, polls have shown that Republicans are the most reluctant to receive a vaccine for COVID-19. “The View” host Meghan McCain recently cited a previous comment made by vice president Kamala Harris as the reason why Republicans are hesitant to get vaccinated.
During “The View” on Tuesday, McCain said members of both political parties are responsible for Republican reluctance to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. McCain went on to assert that the figures shown on the surveys and polls would likely be higher, as a poll by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 42 percent of Republicans, particularly supporters of former President Donald Trump, have said they will not get vaccinated. McCain then used a clip of Harris’ interview with Dana Bash on CNN to back up her point.
In the clip that was played, Harris was pressed on whether she would take the vaccine if it was distributed prior to the November elections. “I would not trust Donald Trump. And it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and reliability of whatever he’s talking about. I will not take his word for it,” said Harris at the time.
Following the clip, McCain noted that Harris was reluctant to receive the vaccine under the Trump administration then went on to say that Republicans like herself are now reluctant to get vaccinated under the Biden administration. However, McCain did not play the comments made by Harris after the initial comment where the then-vice presidential candidate noted that Trump had suggested injecting bleach into the body to fight COVID-19. McCain also did not mention that the now-former president had actively cast doubt on vaccines in the past.
In other news, a man was arrested this week near Harris’ home in Washington DC. Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, are currently residing in the Blair House as renovations are ongoing at the vice president’s residence. The man that was detained was charged with carrying weapons that were obtained by law enforcement in the vehicle.
