North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for renewed dedication to socialism and praised the enduring legacy of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) in a speech marking the party’s upcoming 80th anniversary. According to state media KCNA, Kim urged the nation to uphold the revolutionary spirit of its founders and maintain the ideological purity of the party.
Foreign dignitaries, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Russia’s ruling party chairman Dmitry Medvedev, and Vietnam’s Communist Party chief To Lam, are expected to attend the commemorations in Pyongyang this week. Vietnam’s government confirmed Lam’s visit—the first by a Vietnamese Communist Party leader to North Korea in nearly 20 years—stating that bilateral cooperation agreements are anticipated during the trip.
During his visit to the Party Founding Museum on Wednesday, Kim paid tribute to his grandfather and state founder Kim Il Sung, as well as revolutionary fighters who established what he called the “solid cornerstone” of the party’s success. He described the museum as a “sacred sanctuary” representing the WPK’s revolutionary tradition and resilience.
Reflecting on eight decades of party history, Kim emphasized the importance of generational continuity in the socialist cause, urging citizens to fulfill their “revolutionary duties” and strengthen the nation’s ideological foundation.
Last month, Kim enhanced his diplomatic profile by standing alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at a major military parade in Beijing celebrating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s World War II defeat.
While North Korea has not officially confirmed whether it will hold a military parade for the WPK anniversary, South Korean intelligence reports indicate signs of preparation in Pyongyang.
