A viral TikTok video featuring the McOcean burger from McDonald's, with unusual ingredients like octopus and shrimp, has sparked widespread curiosity and debate. Despite its popularity, investigations suggest the McOcean burger may be an elaborate internet hoax.
Viral Video Shows McDonald's McOcean Burger with Octopus and Shrimp, Sparking Curiosity and Debate
An unwrapping video that has gone viral has been making its rounds online. It depicts an individual embarking on a perplexing new McDonald's sandwich, the McOcean burger. At the time of this writing, the video uploaded to TikTok by user @maligoshik on June 22 has received over 4.1 million views.
In the video, the user is seated in a vehicle, displaying what appears to be a McDonald's box labeled "McOcean" to the camera. However, the contents of the box have captivated everyone's attention. The sandwich has some unusual ingredients: a Filet-O-Fish patty, three small octopuses, a pair of mini shrimps, and tartar sauce. The user takes a messy bite, says, "I like it," and waves farewell to the camera.
Intrigued by the sandwich's unconventional garnishes, particularly the octopus, The Takeout was eager to determine its availability (and, let's be honest, whether we could obtain it independently). However, after a thorough investigation, The Takeout is convinced that the McOcean burger is a mere internet fabrication.
In the comments section, users expressed interest in the source of @maligoshik's McDonald's sandwich, with phrases such as "Where is the McOcean burger at?" and "I can't find ANYTHING on this sandwich besides this video."
Expert Debunks McOcean Burger as Hoax, No Evidence Found on Ukrainian McDonald's Menu
It appears that @maligoshik is located in Ukraine, as their other recordings indicate. A Ukrainian McDonald's menu review revealed no indication of this sandwich. The Filet-O-Fish is available, but it does not include any variations, nor are prawns or octopus listed on the menu. At the same time, shrimp is featured in other countries, such as Japan, where it is served in a sandwich known as the Ebi Filet-O; the McOcean burger still needs to be listed.
Mike Haracz, a former corporate chef at McDonald's and a well-known TikTok personality, was consulted for his perspective. Haracz, who has previously assisted in understanding the inner workings of McDonald's, reviewed the video and expressed his conviction that the sandwich was a hoax.
He noted a significant detail: "Normally, all of the sauce would be on the crown of the bun, but it looks like the Filet-O-Fish was opened, the octopus and shrimp were added, then closed again, as there is sauce under the octopus and not much on top." Haracz's observation is accurate in the video, as the sauce is on top of and beneath the octopus.
The box in the video is likely a fake, and the sandwich is expected to be altered to gain internet influence. Despite the desire for the item to be genuine, it is unlikely that octopus will be available at McDonald's shortly.
