Throughout the nationwide lockdown several months ago in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus, first lady Melania Trump has often reminded Americans to practice social distancing guidelines and wear face masks in crowded or public places. Recently, she reiterated the need to wear face masks in public.
The first lady shared a photo of herself wearing a face mask on Twitter, with the caption, “Even in the summer months, please remember to wear face coverings & practice social distancing. The more precaution we take now can mean a healthier & safer country in the fall.” The photo was taken back in April, where she first stressed the importance of wearing face masks in places where social distancing cannot be practiced.
Alongside the first lady, more and more Republican politicians have since told Americans to wear face masks when in public places. This is especially at the time when coronavirus cases in the United States have exceeded three million, and the death toll has gone over 138,000. Vice president Mike Pence and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also reminded Americans to wear face masks when in public. Both have been spotted wearing face masks.
This also comes at a time when her husband, Donald Trump, who has infamously refused to wear a face mask in public, was seen wearing one for the first time. Trump visited wounded soldiers in the Walter Reed Hospital over the weekend. During the lockdown, the first lady has often shared the advice given by the experts at the CDC in the fight against the ongoing pandemic. However, many were left confused as Melania was often seen in public sans mask,s especially during her engagements with her husband.
Mrs. Trump was seen with a face mask for the very first time when she previously visited the residents and staff of the Mary Elizabeth House. In a video she previously shared on Twitter, the first lady was seen touring the area with a face mask during her unannounced visit. Melania personally delivered boxed lunches and items with the logo of her Be Best initiative on them. The White House staff that was with Melania during the visit were also wearing face masks.
