NCSoft Corp. announced it will be releasing its new game soon called “Lineage W.” The South Korean video game developer and publisher will be launching the said title worldwide for gamers on a single server.
According to Pulse News, “Lineage W” is NCSoft’s latest addition to its multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) “Lineage” series. It is the company’s best-selling game that players around the world have come to like. This is a type of game that can be played on the PC or game console devices including PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
The launch of this new game was said to have been scheduled earlier than originally planned. NCSoft is already open for pre-registration and players can do this via the company’s website, App Store or Google Play.
Kim Taek Jin, NCSoft’s chief creative officer, said that “Lineage W” is a compilation of the Lineage IP over the last 24 years and he shared this at the global online showcase that was held last week for the launch of the game.
“Lineage W” was described as a game that features a dark fantasy world. Gamers will have fun playing with improved 3D graphics and other visual features that promise to turn imagination into reality while playing. Also, the battle system picks up originality from its predecessor which is the “Lineage IP.”
“The game is a project that pursues the ultimate Lineage,” CCO Kim said in a press release. “The game emphasizes Lineage’s core values: battle, pledge, sacrifice, and honor. Lineage W will expand Lineage’s key element ‘battle community’ globally.”
Meanwhile, The Korea Economic Daily reported that analysts in the gaming industry see NCSoft’s launch of “Lineage W” as a desperate move to retain its leadership in this line of business and market. It was noted that the company was able to reach and maintain its top rank due to the massive success of its “Lineage M” and now it is continuing the game through another version that will be introduced as part of the series.
It was added that NCSoft may have been forced to release a new game this time around as it felt threatened by the release of Kakao Games Corp.’s “ODIN: Valhalla Rising.” This new game has recently been taking over the no. 1 ranking in terms of sales on Google Play.
