A recent drone flyover of Tesla's Giga Texas reveals over 300 Cybertrucks, indicating significant progress in mass production at the electric vehicle giant's facility.
Drone Surveillance Unveils Surge in Tesla Cybertruck Production at Giga Texas
One of the best aspects of Tesla's manufacturing facilities is that the electric vehicle community closely monitors them. Thus, from the beginning, drone flyovers have been used to monitor Giga, Texas. One of the most recent flyovers of the site was by longtime Tesla watcher Jeff Roberts on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Based on Roberts' March 13, 2024 footage, Giga Texas produces more Tesla Cybertrucks. Granted, the all-electric pickup trucks could be seen in several areas of the Giga Texas complex. However, according to Teslarati, Tesla enthusiasts estimated there were over 300 Cybertrucks on the grounds at the time of Roberts' flyover. This would be the highest number of Cybertrucks in Giga, Texas.
The increasing number of Tesla Cybertrucks at the Giga Texas complex bodes well for the all-electric pickup truck's production ramp. This indicates that Tesla is progressing toward mass production of the vehicle. This is impressive, as the Cybertruck is arguably Tesla's most technologically advanced vehicle to date, as evidenced by features such as a 48-volt low-voltage system, stainless steel panels, and steer-by-wire technology.
Tesla has given a reasonably conservative estimate for Cybertruck production this year. According to Tesla's Q4 and FY 2023 Update Letter, Giga Texas has an estimated annual production capacity of over 125,000 Cybertrucks. That equates to fewer than 2,500 Cybertrucks per week, or approximately 343 units per day, if the facility works a seven-day workweek. Given the Tesla watcher's recent flyover, the EV manufacturer may be taking steps toward meeting Giga Texas' stated production run rate of 125,000 Cybertrucks per year.
The Boring Company's Prufrock 3 Revolutionizes Tunneling at Tesla's Giga Texas
The Boring Company (TBC) has unveiled a momentous event- the launch of Prufrock 3 at the prestigious Tesla Giga Texas. This is a culmination of weeks of meticulous planning and preparation by TBC.
Since mid-January, TBC has been working hard to build Prufrock 3 near Giga, Texas. Unlike traditional tunnel boring machines (TBMs), which require deep launch pits, Prufrock can porpoise, allowing it to launch from the surface, burrow underground, and emerge at the tunnel's end. Prufrock uses porpoising to streamline the excavation process.
Joe Tegtmeyer, a drone operator, collaborated with tunneling experts and other YouTubers who are closely following TBC's projects to develop estimates for Prufrock 3's Giga Texas dig. While the exact tunnel length is unknown, Tegtmeyer and his team estimate Prufrock 3 will dig approximately 300 meters (1,000 feet). The field experts on Tegtmeyer's team agreed, estimating that the tunnel could be completed in 2 to 4 weeks based on Prufrock 3's capabilities.
Tegtmeyer and his team's timeframe is significantly faster than TBC's previous tunneling machines. TBC's last iteration, Prufrock 2, has a tunneling speed of up to 1,600 meters (1 mile) per week. TBC's Prufrock 3 aims to increase TBM performance sevenfold, significantly accelerating tunnel construction.
TBC mentioned on its website that Prufrock's medium-term goal is to exceed 1/10 of human walking speed, which is 7 miles per day.
The success of Prufrock 3's Tesla Giga Texas project has the potential to revolutionize tunnel construction for a wide range of applications, including transportation networks and utility corridors. As Prufrock 3 begins its mission to carve a path beneath Giga Texas soil, the coming weeks will tell.
