There is still an immense shortage of PS5 consoles worldwide, especially in the United States. However, Sony hopes to make PS5 reservations a little easier now that the holiday season is approaching.
A new landing page for PS5 reservation registration was launched this week. Console gamers can now register using a PS Network ID to get a chance to purchase the new-generation hardware this holiday. But Sony noted that the console would be available in limited quantities.
Those who will register can get an invitation to order PS5 discs and digital-only consoles this holiday. Sony did not specify the parameters of getting selected to receive an invite. “Our selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities,” the company wrote in the FAQ section. It might not be on a first-come-first-served basis. But it would not hurt to register as soon as possible.
Sony will start sending invites sometime in November. They will be sent via email, so customers must make sure their email address associated with their PS Network account is valid. The email will contain information, such as the date and time when they can order a PS5 and gaming accessories available.
Once an invitation is received, customers can only get one PS5 console per PSN account. There are also limits to the quantities of accessories that can be ordered per user – 2 DualSense wireless controllers (in bundles, Cosmic Red, or Midnight Black), 3 white DualSense wireless controllers, 1 PS5 Media Remote, and 1 PULSE 3D wireless headset.
Invitations for PS5 reservations also have expiration dates. But the invitations do not guarantee that all customers can order a console. Sony said it is possible to get a “Sold Out” message, which means all available PS5 consoles have been reserved so PSN users may want to order immediately on the date and time indicated on their invitations.
The new registration system only caters to customers with shipping addresses in the U.S. PSN users who are currently out of the country can still order a PS5 and accessories as long as the items will be delivered to an address in the U.S., otherwise, their orders will be canceled.
