In this week’s episode of “Scandal” Season 6, the show confirmed rumors of a Mellie-Marcus hookup (and brewing romance). After a few scenes of sexual tension, Mellie finally gave in following a successful pitch at a baseball game, Hollywood Life said in a recap. Olivia has since killed the romance following Marcus’ appointment as press secretary, but who knows.
But what does ex-husband Fitz have got to say with this? Actor Tony Goldwyn, who plays Fitz, said it would be of no problem for his character. He told TVLine, “I don’t think Fitz would have a problem with it, beyond the political problem of her having a relationship with a member of his staff. Mellie’s a single woman, and Marcus is a pretty solid guy. Fitz wants Mellie to be happy, and if Marcus makes her happy, I think Fitz would tell her to be with him.”
As for Cyrus, it is highly unlikely for him to derail Mellie’s road towards presidency at this point, considering that he has yet to get himself out of prison for Vargas’s death. And if he does have plan to steal the presidency away from Mellie, there’s one person who’ll stand in the way: Olivia.
When Fitz offered Cyrus clemency, Cyrus said he’ll agree if Mellie steps down, knowing Olivia will never agree to it.
““She’s not interested in justice or truth,” says Cyrus. “She’s not interested in doing what’s best for the country. She just wants to win.” It’s a fair point, given Olivia’s history. She helped Fitz steal an election, and until recently, had no compunction about siccing Huck and his power tools on anyone who got in her way,” Joshua Alton argued in a Vulture piece.
