Walgreens announced that it will be rewarding its customers who shop for healthy items using its new credit card. The leading American pharmacy chain will also offer big savings to cardholders when they shop at Walgreens and other affiliated retailers that honor Mastercard.
According to Fox Business, Walgreens just unveiled its new credit card program on Monday, Aug. 16, and it was designed to reward cardholders for every purchase of healthy items and options.
The company launched the myWalgreens Mastercard and the myWalgreens credit card, and these are said to be issued by Synchrony Bank. These will provide users with various perks, including cash back rewards when they shop at any of Walgreen’s 9,000 store outlets nationwide.
Shoppers can also be rewarded through healthy purchases at Duane Reade and Walgreen’s mobile app. The company said that customers could also get rewards from purchases in other stores that accept its Mastercard.
The company added that its newest credit card program is just the start of many more benefits to come. Walgreens said it has plans to expand its financial services offerings to further reward customers for making healthy choices.
“Today’s launch of the myWalgreens Credit Card is just the beginning in the evolution and expansion of our financial services offerings,” Walgreen’s vice president of payments and financial services, Maria Smith, said in a press release. “Most credit cards reward customers for what they buy, but not how they live and the myWalgreens Credit Card aims to change that through building upon the strength of our myWalgreens loyalty platform and app experience, while cardholders can earn up to 10 percent Walgreens Cash rewards for making healthy choices when they use their myWalgreens Credit Card to make purchases in-store and online.”
Meanwhile, some of the perks to expect for using the myWalgreens credit card include 10% cash rewards on some Walgreens-branded products and a five percent cash reward on other brands and purchases at its pharmacies. Lastly, the cardholders will also receive $25 in cash rewards at Walgreens if they make a purchase within 45 days after the opening of their account.
