During Melania Trump’s time as first lady so far, or at least until the next few weeks, she has not appeared on the covers of any magazines. A leaked recording of her conversation with her former friend and aide reveals why she has not appeared on the said publications.
Melania’s former friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff released another recording of her conversation with the first lady, where she revealed what she thought about doing any magazine covers. In the audio recording, the first lady is heard to be saying that she does not really care about doing any magazine covers despite her husband Donald Trump’s rants that no magazine has asked her to be featured on their covers. Melania is also heard to be citing Vogue as one of the magazines she is not interested in doing a cover for.
“When Vogue said like ‘oh we want you to do a profile’ Profile? F*** you profile. I don’t need profile,” said Melania in the recording. “What I need another profile? ‘It might be a cover.’ I’m like it might be a cover? I don’t need, I don’t give a f*** about Vogue and any magazine.”
The first lady went on to rant to Wolkoff about how it seems unlikely that she will be featured on the magazine’s September issue. Melania ranted about the possibility of not getting featured because people are supposedly “jealous” of her. “I’m doing so much more stuff. Do I care? I don’t,” said the first lady.
Wolkoff released the audio in light of Trump’s attack on publications for failing to feature Melania on their covers. This is in comparison to Melania’s predecessor, Michelle Obama, who appeared on 12 covers in her eight years as first lady to Barack Obama.
While her husband is insistent on staying in Washington, Melania is already looking ahead to their life after the presidency. However, the soon-to-be-former first couple may find themselves at odds over their potential home after Washington DC, specifically in the form of the renovations in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The quarters that are treated as the Trumps’ private living space has been going through renovations, with Melania overseeing some of them. People familiar with the matter revealed that Trump was not pleased with his wife’s renovations on the resort as it did not match his preferred style.
