U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order aimed at strengthening the nation’s food supply chain by targeting potential risks linked to price fixing, market manipulation, and anti-competitive practices. The White House announced that the order directs the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to establish dedicated task forces focused on identifying and addressing threats that could disrupt food production and distribution.
In the order, Trump emphasized that protecting the stability and security of America’s food supply is a national priority, particularly as rising food costs continue to affect households across the country. He stated that his Administration will investigate whether anti-competitive behavior—especially by companies under foreign control—may be driving higher prices for consumers and creating vulnerabilities within the supply chain. The order underscores that such actions could pose national security concerns if they limit access to essential goods or weaken agricultural markets.
The newly formed task forces will be responsible for examining potential collusion, monopolistic strategies, and other conduct that may distort competition in food-related industries. According to the executive order, both the attorney general and the FTC chairman will be empowered to deploy enforcement actions when necessary. They may also recommend updated regulatory measures if the investigation reveals systemic issues that require stronger oversight or policy reform.
By focusing on supply chain integrity, consumer protection, and market fairness, the initiative aims to ensure that American families are not burdened by artificially inflated food prices. It also highlights the government’s ongoing effort to strengthen domestic resilience against economic pressures and foreign influence within critical industries. The executive order signals a strategic move to prioritize transparency, competition, and accountability across the food sector while safeguarding long-term national security interests.
