Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing prisoner exchanges with Russia, accusing Moscow of undermining humanitarian agreements and jeopardizing diplomatic progress. In a national address on Sunday, Zelenskiy emphasized that Ukraine had not received the full list of prisoners from Russia, despite prior agreements reached in Turkey.
Zelenskiy criticized Russia for attempting to politicize the issue, calling their tactics a “dirty political and information game.” He underscored that Ukraine remains focused on tangible outcomes—specifically, securing the release and safe return of its citizens. “We believe the exchanges will continue and will do everything to ensure that happens,” he said.
His comments followed Russian claims that Ukraine had indefinitely postponed the most recent prisoner swap—an accusation promptly denied by a Ukrainian official.
The Ukrainian leader warned that Russia’s failure to honor humanitarian commitments raises serious concerns about broader peace efforts, including those led by the United States. “If the Russians do not stand by agreements even in humanitarian matters, it casts great doubt on all international efforts—including U.S. diplomatic initiatives,” Zelenskiy noted.
U.S. President Donald Trump has urged both countries to pursue a peaceful resolution and supports a 30-day ceasefire. While Ukraine backs the proposal, Russia has insisted on meeting unspecified conditions first.
Amid rising tensions and intensified Russian airstrikes, Zelenskiy urged citizens to remain vigilant. “In the coming days, we must pay attention to air raid warnings,” he cautioned. “Look after yourselves, look after Ukraine.”
The conflict, now over three years old, continues to draw international concern, as both sides struggle to make lasting progress on humanitarian and diplomatic fronts.
